New Collection Makes Science, Math, and Engineering Fun!
Thanks to a $20,000 NYS Special Legislative Grant sponsored by (then) Assemblyman Sam Roberts, the DeWitt Community Library is circulating collections of kid-friendly science, math, and engineering equipment, materials, and resources, all packaged with easy, do-it-yourself activities and directions. The new “Discovery To Go” (DTG) collection, which is designed to allow families to explore and play at home or in the library, includes a diverse assortment of high-tech gear. The science collection includes items such as microscopes, a telescope, fossil and rock collections, weather stations, and medical models. The engineering collection includes kits and technology that encourage budding inventors to explore robotics, create sustainable energy models, and discover properties of light and sound with electronics. The collection’s math games and gadgets help clarify math functions for young children in a visual and tactile way. Books and media on relevant topics supplement the collection and support learning and teaching.
